AGB named one of the Best Pro Bono Law Firms in Canada
On June 24, Canadian Lawyer magazine, in partnership with Pro Bono Ontario, released its fourth annual special report celebrating the leaders in Canada's pro bono legal landscape, putting a spotlight on this year's top 10 pro bono firms and five best in-house law groups.
We are proud to share that Adair Goldblatt Bieber has been included again on this list, recognizing us as one of Canada's top pro bono law firms and earning us the designation of 5-Star Pro Bono Firm. We are recognized as one of six "medium firms", amongst a total of 17 small, medium, and large firms and in-house legal departments recognized across the country. You can review the special report and the full list of recognized firms and groups here.
The special report highlights how Canada’s 5-Star Pro Bono Firms are rising to the challenge created by the widespread demand for free legal assistance, contending with systemic barriers, and making the greatest impacts. This recognition is consistent with AGB's commitment to improving access to justice, including through the provision of pro bono legal advice and services. We encourage our lawyers to seek out opportunities to assist organizations, causes, and individuals that inspire and give them meaning, and that leverage their legal expertise for the greater good.
Canadian Lawyer magazine first recognized AGB as a 5-Star Pro Bono Firm in 2023, and we are repeatedly and consistently Gold Tier Member of Pro Bono Ontario's 100% Access to Justice Leadership Circle. We are proud of our pro bono advice and advocacy on behalf of, and in support of, organizations such as Pro Bono Ontario, Ecojustice Canada, the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF), Indigenous Climate Action, and Can't Buy My Silence.
Our lawyers also provide pro bono advice and representation to individuals who cannot otherwise afford legal representation, including athletes and students facing investigations, proceedings, and sanctions before their respective institutions' adjudicative bodies. We also regularly act for refugees with civil claims against the Canadian government for Charter violations, who require urgent injunctive relief to prevent further irreparable harm.
We are grateful to Canadian Lawyer for acknowledging the meaning and impact of these contributions. Although we certainly do not do it for the glory, it is always great to have the hard work and dedication of our lawyers recognized, especially when it shines a light on the multitude of ways our profession can give back and improve access to justice.
