Integrity Commissioners & Public Accountability
Our firm regularly acts as legal counsel to Integrity Commissioners for several municipalities and school boards across Ontario, providing legal advice in relation to their statutory mandates.
We are deeply familiar with the governance and accountability frameworks found in the Municipal Act, 2001, the City of Toronto Act, 2006, the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, and the Education Act, as well as the related codes of conduct and policies for municipal members of council and school board trustees.
We provide a broad range of legal services to the Integrity Commissioners appointed under these statutory regimes, including interpreting the relevant legislation and policies and assisting their advisory, investigatory, and reporting functions. We also act under Integrity Commissioners’ delegated authority to undertake their investigations and inquiries and to draft reports on alleged statutory and code of conduct violations.
