Vabuolas, et al. v. Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia

Ana Qarri is representing the Canadian Civil Liberties Association as intervener in an administrative law appeal before the Supreme Court of Canada, in collaboration with Lex Gill of the Montreal-based law firm Trudel Johnston & Lespérance. The appeal arises from an order of British Columbia's Information and Privacy Commissioner directing a religious organization to produce internal records. Members of the religious organization argued that the provincial privacy law infringed their Charter-guaranteed freedom of religion. The appeal is an opportunity for the Supreme Court to clarify the proper standard of review for administrative decisions that infringe Charter protections.
