Hemmings v. Peng

John Adair and Robert Stellick successfully represented the respondents on appeal in this tragic case of medical negligence. Our clients were Ms. Hemmings and her family members. Ms. Hemmings suffered a cardiac arrest on the operating table during a caesarean section, as a result of which she suffered serious, permanent brain injury. The trial judge found that the hospital and certain doctors involved liable for negligence and awarded damages to Ms. Hemmings and her family of $12 million. The Court of Appeal for Ontario upheld the trial judgment against one of the doctors, the anesthesiologist during the caesarean section.
